Contact your home and auto insurance providers immediately to report your losses and begin your claim process.

  • If you do not have the contact information for your insurance company or agent, go to insurance.ca.gov or call 800.927.4357.

Compiling an up-to-date Household Inventory now can help make your home insurance claim process faster.

Track all of your additional expenses that result from living in another location away from your home. Keep all of your receipts.

  • If your home is not lost or destroyed, you may still receive reimbursement for expenses while displaced.

Gather existing pictures of your property and contents if possible, to show to your insurer. When you are permitted to return to your property, be sure to safely capture video of everything you can.

To avoid scams, do not sign contracts for repairs or other needs until you have spoken directly to your insurance company representative. Demand to see identification from anyone who contacts you regarding your claim.

If you want to help those who have been affected by the fires, consider these resources:

Scammers will exploit disasters by taking advantage of vulnerable individuals. Stay vigilant and keep the following in mind:

  • Impersonators – scammers may be posing as government officials, aid workers, or insurance agents. Always ask to see identification and then directly call the relevant agency to verify their credentials before proceeding.
  • Contractors – only hire licensed contractors for repairs. You can request to see a contractor’s “pocket license” together with other identification, and then verify it on the California Contractors State License Board website.
  • Donations – avoid unsolicited donation requests, such as those through email, phone calls, or social media. You can use websites like Charity Navigator and Better Business Bureau to verify the authenticity of an organization.

We are here to support you during this difficult time. Please don’t hesitate to reach out for assistance.
